Main One Cable and Phase3 Telecom partner to increase Internet ...

Main One Cable Company and Phase3 Telecom, both leading indigenous telecommunications infrastructure companies, have entered into a strategic business partnership with the aim of increasing broadband Internet penetration in Nigeria and across the West African sub-region.

Main One Cable owns and operates West Africa?s first privately-owned undersea communication cable system that runs from Europe to Africa with landing points along the West African coast including Nigeria and Ghana.

Phase3 Telecom is a national long distance operator and West Africa?s first privately owned aerial fibre optic cable deployed on high-voltage electricity power lines.

According to Stanley Jegede, Chief Executive Officer of Phase3 Telecom, the pact with Main One will provide the needed solution to truly and practically drive broadband availability in Nigeria. He added that many government development programmes can now be on the path of realisation as improved access would be available throughout the country.

?When two smart companies work together, they create smarter results. Today, the impact of Information and Communications Technologies on globalisation has increased dramatically, and impacted positively on the developmental process in Africa. We believe that a robust and reliable open access network will constitute a platform for efficient e-government, e-voting, e-commerce, e-payment, e-banking, eLearning and media applications, thereby increasing sustainable human, political, economic and social development.?

Under the partnership, the firms will be offering Nigerians high capacity broadband Internet services at very affordable rates using Phase3 Telecom?s extensive aerial fibre network and Main One?s huge bandwidth deployed through its undersea cable. The partnership, which will offer joint provisioning of services, requires the integration of their networks and collaboration in provisioning and service delivery. This partnership is however expected to increase broadband Internet penetration across Nigeria, as internet customers will be able to obtain quality services at affordable prices.
