HILLSBORO, Ore. -- Based on factors such as proficiency standards and college readiness, seven Washington County high schools made U.S. News Best High Schools in Oregon top 20 list released May 7.
The list includes a total of 76 Oregon high schools. International School of Beaverton earned a top score for college readiness (100), and in addition to being ranked number one in Oregon, is the only Oregon school ranked in the top 20 nationally (No. 20).
Washington County school districts and schools, followed by their Oregon rankings are:
- Beaverton School District -- International School of Beaverton: No. 1; Arts and Communications Magnet Academy: No. 11; and Southridge High School: No. 12
- Forest Grove School District -- Forest Grove High School: No. 20
- Gaston School District -- Gaston High School: No. 17
- Hillsboro School District -- Glencoe High School: No. 19
- Tigard-Tualatin School District -- Tigard High School: No. 22; and Tualatin High School: No. 23
Nearly 22,000 public high schools in 49 states and the District of Columbia were ranked on state proficiency standards, how well they prepare students for college, and other factors. Rating methodology was based on principles that a great high school must serve all of its students well, not just those who are college-bound, and that it must be able to produce measurable academic outcomes to show the school is successfully educating its student body across a range of performance indicators. Data was based on 12th-grade enrollment information from the 2009-2010 and only for those schools with sufficient data to analyze.
