Achieving Success Requires Patience and Persistence

If you read attentively the above quote, you will learn a lot about patience and persistence, and with a little deeper thinking, you will see their importance in your life.

Trees need time to grow, and therefore, they symbolize patience.

It is the same with you. You need time to achieve goals, especially big goals, and this requires patience. If you are too impatient, desiring to have immediate results, you might be disappointed and quit your goal.

You have to study, improve yourself, change your mindset, and work toward your goal. You have to water your goal with ambition, motivation and effort, so that it will come true, just as you need to water a tree.

Most trees need years to grow and become big trees. Big goals also need time, and you therefore, need patience, just like a tree.

If you don?t possess enough patience, you need to develop it. It is a skill that can be developed like any other skill.

You need patience to come to a point, where you can speak fluently a foreign language.
You need patience to graduate from school, college or the university.
You need patience to learn and progress with meditation.
You need patience to shape your body.

Patience is very closely related to self-discipline. If you possess self-discipline, you also have patience, and vice versa. If you strengthen your self-discipline, you also strengthen your patience.

Now read the second part of the above-mentioned quote:

Grass often grows through concrete. It can also grow on rocks. It possess persistence, the ability to continue and not quit, until it finds a way to emerge outside, in the sun and air. Can you compare your efforts to grass? Do you continue what you start, until you accomplish it, no matter what obstacles are on your way?

It is so easy to quit when you confront obstacles and opposition, but you feel a great feeling of satisfaction, when you don?t give up and when you win. Every person meets obstacles on the way, but only those who don?t let the obstacles discourage them, ultimately win and achieve success. This applies to career, sports, learning, and everything else.

Persistence is a sign of inner strength and of strong character. Without it, you cannot make any progress. It is ability that makes a person a winner against all odds. It is the person who keeps going that wins. Success could be just so close, and just a little more time and effort are required.

There is a great feeling of achievement, when you persist and don?t give up! When you persist, you go the whole way, and don?t turn back after a few steps. Only those that keep going reach their destination.

How do you develop persistence?
By going on with your plans and goals, and not giving up when you face obstacles or problems.

The Story of Agranna and the Wicked Man:

On any island, you will hear tales told to children as they grow. Stories of monsters and heroes, of kingdoms both fallen and yet to rise. On every island, there are different tales with different purposes, but the one story that spreads far and wide over the waves is that of the sunken kingdom. No one knows what lies in the depths of the ocean, the places where no living person has yet reached. No one except the gods who sank the land in a torrential rain. About four centuries ago, the world was covered in more land than water. As far as the eye could see, craggy mountains, green fields and magnificent castles rose into the sky. Kingdoms were spread far apart and their ideals were peaceful for a time. Nothing good lasts forever though.

A man from the mountains came to one of the kingdoms, a land known as Agranna which was the largest and most powerful on this plane. He tricked the king into believing that the peace was faltering, made the king order Agranna's troops to all corners of the earth. And so they went, tens of thousands of heavily armed soldiers scattering across the fields and mountains, an unstoppable war machine. As they came to the borders of the lands, couriers warned their kings of the impending war, and in a rush to stay sovereign, they too formed armies to contest the tricked Agrannan soldiers. His plan set in motion, the wicked man finalized his plot. The moment he and the king of Agranna were alone, he ran a knife through the king's heart. With the last heir to the throne, the king's son, still much too young to take it, the duty of governing the state fell to the wicked man. It was just as he planned.

Battles raged, towns fell in the wake of war, and the world's peace was lost, all thanks to the will of one man. He sat on the throne, content with his cunning maneuver to ascend to power. With his lead, Agranna began winning the war rapidly, but at a hefty cost. Many lives were lost, fortunes turned to poverty, land became cold, hard and useless. He assured his people that it was for a good cause, that in the end, they would live like lords on a land of gold. His assurances were filled with falsehoods and evil intent though, and the gods saw through this. Seeing no other option to stop the slaughter of innocent people, they told the few peoples still unscathed by war to flee to the mountain tops. Heeding the gods' words, the innocents ran and climbed the mountains. With their chosen few safe, the all mighty deities summoned a torrential rain that flooded the world and killed all who hadn't fled for the heights. At the first sign of trouble however, the wicked man ran to the mountaintops as well. And thus, the old world died, drowned beneath the waves of a gargantuan sea. The people who survived began new lives on the mountaintops, which were now islands in the middle of a vast expanse of water and the wicked man's kin still survive, somewhere in the world.

The Letter:

The year is now three hundred and twenty-five after rain, or A.R. for short. The mountaintop islands have been out of contact for several decades, save the brave travelers and treasure hunters pursuing their lives' passion along the monster ridden, pirate infested waters. The story of Agranna has been transcribed from truth to legend, legend to myth until all it has become is a bedtime story to lull children to sleep. That is, until a letter was found on a small island, buried in a metal box under the sand. It was addressed "To Reader" and was obviously old.

Maltin Ballad! The famous explorer who brought to light hundreds of discoveries around the ocean! This was a letter from him! It told of Agranna and how it was real, how it still is real, somewhere under the waves! As news spread, more and more people began to brave the waters, but it was the young boy who found the letter, whose fate it would change. Suddenly, his island was swarmed with boats, filled with cut throats and do-gooders alike, all wanting to catch a glimpse of the letter, trying to decipher whatever they could from it. Finally though, an offer he couldn't refuse came to light. A pirate captain offered the boy an opportunity to go along with the crew if he'd help lead them to the destination. Without a second thought, the boy agreed and the adventure began.

'Revenge' Winter Finale: Gabriel Mann Teases 'Major' Character's 'Unceremonious Exit' From The Hamptons

Things are heating up in the Hamptons, but a major character won't be around to witness it.

Gabriel Mann, who plays Nolan Ross on "Revenge," is unsure whether or not it's permanent, but someone will be leaving the show tonight after the winter finale.

"It?s always hard to tell with this show if it?s a permanent exit, but we will see one of our major characters have an unceremonious exit from the Hamptons ? and I will not even begin to hint at who that is," Mann tells TVline.com.

"We will also see the return of a triangle, but maybe with not the same characters that we?ve seen before," he teases, adding, "that?s not even mentioning Nolan?s potential triangle."

Now that Nolan's former flame Marco may be back in the picture, things could get messy with his new love interest, Padma.

"Nolan doesn?t necessarily have any idea what to do in a situation like that. Quick with a quip as he is, this may be even a little bit too much for him to handle. Though I?d like to think he always has five irons in the fire," Mann explains. "He?s used to dealing with psychos one-on-one, but you start to dog-pile him and his reactions take a really interesting turn. I love the concept of a very complicated bisexual love triangle that is unapologetic -- and that?s exactly what this is ... But it?s not going to be easy. It?s actually incredibly complicated with Padma, Nolan and Marco."

As for his relationship with Emily (Emily Van Camp), Nolan isn't sure what to make of his BFF's attitude towards him in recent episodes.

"At this point, everything that his character has done has really been in service to the Clarke family -- both David and Emily -- even just in terms of his willingness to sacrifice his company to continue to protect her and keep her safe," Mann says of Nolan. "That said, it is hard to figure out the long game in this. But I would say even up until now, where we are in Season 2, his intentions and affiliations with her are being tested for sure. There?s definitely some jealousy there with Aiden."

But will anything happen to Nolan, Emily or Aiden in the highly-anticipated 13th episode, where the Amanda goes down and some of its passengers sink with her?

"I would say that there could be any number of bodies -- we certainly have enough established characters at this point. And the Amanda?s a medium-sized craft, so I think she could handle any number of passengers," Mann laughs to TVline.com. "It?s actually going to be quite shocking."

"Revenge" airs Sundays at 9 p.m. ET on ABC.

You might say blue-green algae are optimists: they put things in the best possible light?literally.? Actually, the organisms aren?t really algae. They?re photosynthetic ocean bacteria. And they can fine-tune their photosynthetic apparatus to take advantage of the predominant wavelength of light. Now researchers have figured out how one of the world?s most abundant phytoplankton control their color change.

It all comes down to a single, light-sensitive enzyme. In coastal waters where the surrounding light and water are green, specific proteins help catch green light. But in the deeper blue-colored waters, the color change activates an enzyme that replaces the green-light catching proteins with ones tuned for blue light. The finding is in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. The bacteria produce 20 percent of the planet?s oxygen and also consume carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. Researchers say understanding how the bacteria optimize their photosynthesis may help inform climate change scientists. And medical researchers could also get ideas for pigments useful in medical research. Who knew pond scum could be so smart?
